"Calliope" End Grain Cutting Board

"Calliope" End Grain Cutting Board

from $250.00

This end grain cutting board is crafted from Black Walnut, Maple, Bolivian Rosewood, and Canarywood.

The "Calliope" design by Broad Levee Boards is named for its resemblance to the brass pipes of the steam powered instrument still heard here in New Orleans from the SS Natchez sternwheel steamboat on the river.

Hand holds are routed into the ends and rubber feet are mounted with stainless steel screws. This board also features a juice groove around the top surface.

"End Grain" is the ideal orientation of hardwood for cutting boards. There are two reasons for this. First, knives will not dull from use as the blade passes between wood fibers instead of cutting through them. Second, as no wood fibers are severed during use, end grain boards can be considered somewhat "self-healing" compared to edge grain and won't show scars as easily.

Due to the unique characteristics of individual hardwood boards, the cutting board pictured here represents the style of this "Calliope" cutting board. One can expect subtle differences in grain pattern to the pictured board, but great lengths will be taken to match it as close as possible.
